Today was our Parish’s first day of going door to door to evangelize. We are just supposed to only talk about How much God loves us and that he sent his Son as a sacrifice to atone for the sin of mankind…basically the Kerygma.

Me and my wife went to 7 houses. We were a group of 6 couples. We went to a subdivision close by the Chapel. This the first time I have done something like this and was pretty nervous. Two people opened the door and one quickly said they went to another church and took our pamphlet and went back inside.

The one person who talked to us was a Catholic and had not been to Mass in a long time. We didnt get to talk much and missed an opportunity to pray with her.😦 We will be going back to the houses that no one was home this coming Saturday. Pray for our Mission to be successful. We are From San Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Weslaco, TX. Thanks!!

What a fascinating program of house to house evangelization! I really admire that you are willing to put yourself out there as such and do this door to door. May God bless your mission and may it be successful.
Mary.

Is this work associated with the Legion of Mary? If so, I did that. But we went throughout the entire parish neighborhood, and it was essentially secular now and very little interest.

Point was to invite Catholics back and give info to those who were interested.

I am looking at the issue of how much the parish will support newcomers or those who have returned.

I think there is a harvest regarding working families, reaching out to them and supporting them with works of mercy.

People need to see us lay our lives down for our neighbor at the expense of our own comfort and fears prevent us from doing so. But the other part is the parish and how they will continue the work of bringing people closer to Christ each step of the way.

God bless you for all your great work. Keep at it!

This is not with the Legion of Mary although a few of the members with experience doing this are from the Legion. This is a program that one of the Chapels initiated and it has become a Parish wide thing. The priest from our parish has asked me and 9-10 others to go to Puebla, Mexico to go to a week long seminar/training for this. I believe another 10 folks went last year to do the same. My wife says I should go, so I will be accepting the invitation to go.

Interesting!

I think up in my neck of the woods we have two problems…how to reach out…and then when they are in, how to keep them because then this is the work of the parish. As such, parishioners need to be educated in what it is like being a new Catholicl and how the parish must continue to guide them…not in programs or groups, but in Christ Himse.f

Do you have a link?

No link but if you look up the parish name and town in facebook you might see a post or two. The Priest mentions that we need to bring them in and the Church will do the Catechises part. They dont want us to argue about differences in theology just the basic truth that God loves us, and Jesus died for us. etc… I believe that is what the seminar in Peubla is going to be. I still need to speak to the priest and get more details.

I think the next step after intiation, is mystology…but we are very poor in this…people don’t need to be encouraged to join parish organizations, but as Ralph Martin, the parish needs to accompany our newcomers deeper into Christ, and I think it actually helping them develop deeper understanding of prayer and the Mass.

Just got back from our course in the state of Mexico, MX. It was great and learned quite a bit on how the process goes on evangelizing and getting the people we evangelize formed and sent out to evangelize themselves. Its a long process but from what I have heard from others there it is working very well in parishes in Mexico. The program is “Systematic Integral Neo-Evangelization, or SINE”. We had a tent service yesterday and had about 20 people who were not evangelized go up to the front to express their wish to accept Christ into their lives. Their names and contact info where taken and we will have others follow up on them so that they can be pastored and catechized. It was really great to see that all the walking and knocking on doors did bring folks out to the tent worship service. We will be having services all week. Hopefully they will return and more folks show up and come closer to Christ.
