Sit down and think about the works of mercy:
- To feed the hungry.
- To give water to the thirsty.
- To clothe the naked.
- To shelter the homeless.
- To visit the sick.
- To visit the imprisoned, or ransom the captive.
- To bury the dead.
I have some friends who have learned to knit a basic stitch, they order inexpensive cotton and knit washcloths to donate to those who work with the homeless.
Clean out your closet, if you have clothes in good condition that you don’t wear, donate those clothes. Places that help the homeless are always in need of camping supplies, blankets, tarps, you could run a social media campaign to gather these for the programs.
Visit the sick. My husband had critical open heart surgery and was in an ICU room for many weeks. It was over Valentine’s Day. The volunteers came around distributing Valentine’s cards made by various youth groups/CCD/RE students. Those cards brought more joy than I can describe.
Visit the imprisoned. Contact your local Kairos and find out what they need, use social media to help them.
Make knotted rosaries to give away.
Ask your parents if it is okay to contact your parish and get a list of shut-ins/elderly parishioners who would want a phone call.
Bury the dead: Is there a stash of funeral cards in your house? Pray for those people. Read the newspaper and the obits and pray for each of those people and their families.
