Hi, Not Sure,

I am sure that CAF does not charge by the word to post… it is not affiliated with Western Union! 😃 Let me encourage you to use complete sentences and not phrases … or even one word responses. As you get older, you just naturally appreciate complete thoughts!

God bless
“abusers of themselves with mankind”
“effeminate”

I truly appreciate the humour 😃
I usually try to speak in complete thoughts.

As SirJack points out above, SSA is a term only used in apologetics. I had never come across the term before coming to this forum. If someone says “homosexuality is irreconcilable with Christianity” the vast majority of people, including many Catholics, will interpret that as the sexuality itself not the act. I tested my family tonight with that sentence, and they all interpreted it as meaning the sexuality itself was sinful.

Your dictionary quote does not show anywhere that the word homosexuality means the acts, it is saying that it refers to the person who is tempted to do so or the state of being subject to such temptations. Please do not use the term to refer to the acts. As Scott Hahn says in his book on sharing our Catholic faith (Reasons to Believe) we should always speak so as to be understood, in the way that will make it easiest for those we are speaking with to understand and so as to avoid misunderstanding. That is the golden rule in apologetics.
I think he or she answered in the quote with the definations that the noun is someone who does acts with the phrase “practices homosexuality.” If that doesn’t convince you think of it like this. How can one “practice” medicine if they never done a medical “act” in thier life? As such, How can one practice homosexuality without doing a homosexual act? Homosexual acts are more then just plain sex. It can even be flirting with another person of the same gender or even undressing someone of the same gender in your mind. No sex involved yet still a homosexual act.

As someone who is struggling to reconcile my faith and my sexuality let me say the following: your post is not helpful.
God loves you. The Church loves you. Engaging in sex with someone who you aren’t married to is a mortal sin regardless of if it’s the same or oppose gender. Likewise with sodomy whether perfecta or imperfecta. Loving someone of the same sex is neither a crime nor a sin, if it is chaste.

The prostitutes referred to were “sacred prostitutes”. They were not homosexual, they had been forced into that life. Men would go to their temples and have sex with these prostitutes in order to “commune with” their god. They saw it as a sort of prayer.
No they didn’t.

Thanks Dakota. Your point is well made. 🙂

By your logic people can also be described as practising heterosexuals - even if celibate.

I know a few friends who would reject that characterisation.

If however we are clear that the proper place for sexual intercourse is within marriage, then we move beyond the kind of discussion that this thread began with and move towards a discussion that will promote discipleship.

I wonder what you were thinking when you decided to make this post.
Pondering on the strong language used and knowing God is naturally opposed to evil (in him there is no darkness). Yet despite his natural repugnance to evil/our sins, despite the manifest wretchedness that us men have conjured up, he still seeks us out offering us his forgiveness, love, and the opportunity to spend eternity with him.

tqualey thank you for your courage in truth.

That’s great! Yes, we should help do our part in fighting evil. Still though, it is strange that you would choose this topic to rail on. After all masturbation is both more disordered and much more common, and fornication, premarital sex, and cohabitation is much more common and does much more harm. Birth control is also a terrible and widespread evil. I think there are much more damaging and widespread sins doing more harm to society these days that should be given more emphasis than homosexual acts.

Homosexuality is perfectly reconcileable to the Christian faith, it is not a sin to be homosexual any more than it is sinful to be heterosexual. In both sexualities, we are tempted to sex outwith marriage, it is not sinful to be tempted. In both sexualities, we must resist those temptations. You could say “homosexual acts are not reconcilable” but if you go around saying what you said above, you are condemning someone based on a temptation, not a sin.
👍 right on

Hi, RaymondJensen,

I think this is a very clear and cogent approach to the topic! 👍

God bless

Hi, White Sheep,

Rail? I guess you are defining this term a bit differently - maybe you should explain what you mean.

While working on that … maybe you would like to see how you post could be interepreted as an effort to ‘de-RAIL’ the thread. Your post criticizes others for staying on topic and offering an opinion that is consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church - which, as you know, has consistently condemned sodomy. Your post then goes on to identify other mortal sins - and make no mistake about this: all of these acts you have mentioned are disordered. The problem is this thread is only about practicing homosexuals. Those practicing other mortal sins really need their own thread. This type of focus really does keep all of us on target.

Now, your personal opinion that practicing homosexuality is the least objectionalbe of the mortal sins you have provided cries out for a reference. Heed the plea and tell us where you got this information.

Thanks

God bless

Hi, Dakota Roberts,

Yours is a very compassionate and timely response. 🙂

I think we are headed in the same basic direction, but let me add that those who try to reconcile sodomy with the teaching of the Catholic Church will only have failure as an outcome. There can be no reconcilliation between disorder and order or sin and virtue. Those who have tried have only demonstrated that order and virtue are dropped and they try to continue their lives is perputual opposition to the Law of God.

Having temptations for sex outside of marriage is, I think, the common lot of all mankind. How we respond to the Grace of God to these temptations is how we work on our ultimate goal - discipleship with Christ through His Church. Those who claim that they follow Christ while rejecting His Church and the moral guidance she has given to us all are deluding themselves. Finding out about the impact of such a delusion when God judges such a soul, as identified in Matt 7:21-23, is simply damning:

**
21“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven,* but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.n 22Many will say to me on that day,o ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name?’p 23Then I will declare to them solemnly, ‘I never knew you.* Depart from me, you evildoers.**

Those who claim to be able to reconcile evil with good are simply leading others toward the eternal loss of their soul. And, this is the case for those who not only are tempted but give in to such temptations and encourage others to do in like manner. This is the unvarnished reality of such evil.

God bless

Hi, White Sheep,

Rail? I guess you are defining this term a bit differently - maybe you should explain what you mean.
I mean the fact that we always have topics popping up constantly about homosexuality as if it is the most significant problem facing humanity today.

Oh, yeah, because that’s what we need to be worrying about… making sure that everyone knows homosexual acts are wrong. Great idea. I hope someone who didn’t already know that gets the message. One quibble, fornication isn’t disordered, just immoral.
Now, your personal opinion that practicing homosexuality is the least objectionalbe of the mortal sins you have provided cries out for a reference. Heed the plea and tell us where you got this information.
I didn’t say it was the least objectionable. The point I made was so obvious. So completely obvious. If you want to worry about a grave sin that people are committing and the impact it has on society, do you worry about the one that 1% of the population does or the ones that 90% of the population do? Which do more harm? Homosexual acts don’t destroy families. The other things mentioned do.

Hi, White Sheep,

Apparently, it this thread is not as ‘obvious’ as I thought it was - and the posts really should stay with the line presented by the OP. Feel free to start your own thread on the moral and spiritual problems presented by the evils you have previously identified.

No you didn’t say it was least objectionable - and I apologize for saying you did. It was, however, the impression I got from your post. I retract my previous statement. 🙂

You really need to give some reference concerning how much harm one group of sins does to harm society versus the harm done by other sins. Truly, such an effort at quantification needs documentation.

As a matter of fact, just look at how the US has gone out of its way to look at ‘hate crimes’ that specifically address sodomy and those who practice this disorder - so that people preaching what the Bible teaches about active homosexuality are fearful of being guilty of a federal offense. Such a fear of violating a new perception of law is not true with those who are guilty of fornication, adultery, masterbation, drunkeness, theft - and any other sin you can think of. That’s the reality. And, such laws are protecting those who endanger the society with their disordered life-style trying to equate sodomy with marriage.

God bless

Hi, Starsmurf,

I notice you are from Scotland. You may be interested in knowing that the Archbishop of Glasglow has not only condemned homosexual acts - but, government efforts to legalize ‘same-sex-marriage’. I found what he said very interesting, and, you may too. Here is the link to the text:
