I heard a different version. It may not have been St Francis who was the superior. This superior when he was confronted by the farmer had to pay for the rest of the pig. Then the superior very sharply rebuked Br Juniper. There was considerable shouting in his rebuke. The superior really lost his temper.
Later that night there was a knock at the superior’s door. It was Br Juniper. Br Juniper had a bowl of oatmeal. He said, I perceive that your just anger with me caused your throat to be sore. So I made this oatmeal in the hopes that you may feel better."
