I’m in a non catholic family Methodist to be exact , and my father is not the one to be open to new religions . I’m not catholic cause of this very reason , I plan fully joining the church as an adult (I’m 15 now ) but till then how can one grow closer to god as a non catholic. I have been trying to pray the rosary everyday and pray every night

Ask, seek, and knock. He’ll answer. That’s the way it works. God takes us from wherever we are, and He honors faith however we express it, to the best of our knowledge and capabilities.

Do you mean “God”? Sorry, not capitalising God is an annoyance to me. Pray.

How familiar are you with the Gospels?

When I think of saying the rosary I think of the meditations through the mysteries. The better you know the Gospels the better your meditation.

So my advice would be to read through one of the Gospels each week. The Gospel of John is my favorite.

I didn’t noticed until after I posted . Sorry for goofing up

Ignorance of scripture is ignorance of Christ. This is a very deep statement, not just a cliche. However much time you have to commit to it, reading the Bible is first class communication with God.

It’s not what you meant: I read Jewish commentaries and they talk about two very general characteristics of God: immanence and transcendence.

Transcendence refers to how God is described as being above the heavens. Immanence refers to how close God is, to hear the slightest whispered prayer from out lips.

God is close to us. We just need to connect with that in our lives.

I’m not sure if this will make you closer to God but one way I was thinking is by doing things that are pleasing to God.
Eg:honouring your parents, being kind to others and kids at school, helping and being compassionate to those in need/who are less fortunate.

It fills me with joy to know that a teenager like me is able, by the grace of God, to find that the Catholic Church is the true Church. I would recommend continuing to pray the Rosary daily. Once you’re able to get one prayed easily in a day, try two. Once you get use to that, pray three in a day. St. Louis de Monfort makes it very clear in his book The Secret of the Rosary that those who recite the Rosary daily (whether they have one foot in Hell, or they’re heretics or schismatics) will not perish. I will continue to pray for you. God bless you.

Prayer and read scripture. Try to live life according to Christ’s example. Have faith in God and trust in him.

You will be well placed for RCIA and reception of the sacraments as a result of these things.

My advice to you would be the two greatest commandments. Love God and Love neighbor.

Now keep in mind here that it is possible to Love God without, at that very moment, Loving neighbor but it is not possible to Love neighbor without, at that very moment Loving God.

Where I am going with this is you are 15. Above all else you have to honor your parents wishes while you are still under their care. (Notice I did not say under their roof) Once you hit college, unless you are on your own I would advise you NOT to join the Catholic Church as of yet. You are still under their care and to do so would be dishonoring them. But guess what God made it so simple for us, the more you honor your parents the more you are loving God and growing closer to Him.

Others have given you good answers on prayer, which is a given, so the last thing I will add is study and ask questions. The best way to grow closer to someone is to ask questions and learn about them. You can pray to God for enlightenment to get to know him better and at the same time you can come here and ask questions or read the Church Fathers.

Finally, get a good Catholic Bible commentary. I really like the Ignatius Study Bible on the new testament. Read a little each day.

You’ll grow closer everyday.

God Bless

Try Father John McCloskey’s Seven Daily Habits for Faithful Catholics (pdf). As a non-Catholic, you won’t be able to fully practice Habit #3, Participating in Holy Mass and receiving Holy Communion in a state of grace. If you could attend daily Mass in person that would be great. If not, then you could try watching daily Mass online. In either case, instead of receiving Holy Communion, you could make an act of spiritual communion, such as the following:

My Jesus,
I believe that You
are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things,
and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment
receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.
Amen. (source)

I recommend learning about the traditions of the church you are in. The Wesley’s were trailblazing preachers who sought a place for new movements within the Church they grew up in , and in the New World, where the possibility of growth was near endless. Learn how they related to God and you will learn about where you are now and where and how God will lead you.

Vatican 2 taught that there elements of salvation exist outside the Roman Catholic church; these rightly belong to the Church and lead to greater unity among us. As your family places you in the Methodist church forr now, learn about how Christ is important to them. Scripture, song and worship. Walk with God as best you can where you are, and God will guide you where you need to go.

Pray to receive the Holy Spirit:
‘If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!’ - Luke 11:13

You’ve been given a lot of great advice. Perhaps you can also find a way to help those in need in your spare time. Helping at a food bank or spending time with some folks in a nursing home. I’m sure your community or Methodist Church have some volunteer programs that would love to have your help.

Pray the rosary every single day, meditating on each of the 15 mysteries(or 20, your choice).
The rosary is one of the best “tools” to convert souls and lead them closer to God.

I’d suggest reading Scripture daily. The OT as well as the new. Read for 15 minutes or a half hour each day. If you want to read the Catholic Bible, which has extra books not in Protestant versions, it’s available for free to read online at the Vatican website and USCCB website.

Other than that, being a good kind person, helping others and attending regular church services in your family’s faith are all good things to do.
