In this toxic world that creates a challenge for me in terms of striving for being a Catholic man, I’m wondering, how can I be a good Catholic man in today’s world? Any ideas? Any good resources?

Try Catholic singles, and speak to your parish DRE see if they know of one?

I think you need to be more specific since there are many vocations which men are called to. And each have different needs.

I guess i could be specific: how can I be a good single Catholic man living in this world?

All you need to do is keep the Commandments (Moses’ 10 and Jesus’ 2)

Blogs like “Roman Catholic Man” and “The Catholic Gentleman” and other sites for Catholic men may have additional advice you can relate to.

Also, recognize that Catholic men (and women) have always faced challenges in trying to live out their faith in a fallen world. Maybe not the exact same challenges we have today, but there was no “golden age” when being a Catholic was super easy. You should expect to struggle, occasionally fall, and dust yourself off and keep on truckin’. Don’t become one of those people who is so obsessed with modern decadence that it makes you a scold who just sits in the corner with his arms folded all the time.

I don’t even have your extra struggle and it’s hard for me. Just do the best you can.

I have always striven (though not always successfully) to let the way I act and speak demonstrate my faith to others. Living by the Golden Rule (Do unto others as you would have them do unto you) is a good start. Remember too the adage: garbage in, garbage out. If you don’t want to be negatively influenced by the culture, avoid spending a lot of time with the various forms of entertainment media that belittle or go against your values.

Set aside a time each day for prayer, morning and evening. At least fifteen minutes each time, and work up to more.

My two cents…

Peace!

Join a Catholic Men’s group in you diocese or if none exist start one. The National Fellowship of Catholic Men has resources that will help you get started. Two books will also help, Be A Man by Father Larry Richard and Behold the Man by Deacon Harold Burke- Silvers. The workbook Signposts is also great for small groups . I have used them in the men’s group that I belong too had thay have helped every man to be a better catholic and man.

I would add to this the following, for at least half your time spent in prayer, shut up and listen. Our biggest challenge in the noise of this world is discerning God’s will. Silence is valuable.

get involved with your parish community. for a man, find a men’s group. try an ACTS retreat, you’re sure to find some great guys involved with that.

Agree, get involved. Many young people shy away from the Knights of Columbus, but, you will find Catholic men who have the wisdom and experience that only years of life can bring.

Rel Ed/CCD/Faith Formation/RCIA prep begins in a few weeks for most of the US. Speak to the director. I’ve yet to find a parish that complains they have too many volunteers for these programs!

The Social Justice Commission at your parish is likely now gearing up for holiday season (food baskets, Angel tree, etc.).

Any good resources?
Maybe @theCardinalbird follow the advice of Cardinal Joseph Mercier (1851-1926)

"I am going to reveal to you the secret of sanctity and happiness. Every day for five minutes control your imagination and close your eyes to the things of sense and your ears to all the noises of the world in order to enter into yourself Then, in the sanctity of your baptized soul (which is the Temple of the Holy Spirit), speak to that Divine Spirit, saying to Him:

Oh, Holy Spirit, beloved of my soul, I adore you. Enlighten me, guide me, strengthen me, console me. Tell me what I should do; give me your orders. I promise to submit myself to all that you desire of me and to accept all that you permit to happen to me. Let me only know your will.

If you do this, your life will flow along happily, serenely, and full of consolation, even in the midst of trials. Grace will be proportioned to the trial, giving you the strength to carry it, and you will arrive at the gate of Paradise, laden with merit. This submission to the Holy Spirit is the secret of sanctity."
