We (Catholics) don’t encourage Orthodox to switch sides, but neither do we discourage them from doing so. But more to the point, I believe that there are extenuating circumstances in ThatOrthodoxGuy’s case that need to be considered before you jump to criticize his action.

The Balamaand statement has totally no authority. Eastern Catholics weren’t even invited there. The Church can’t create a document which prevents people from coming into her, this is ludicrous.

Bishop Danylak’s claim, that even the Union of Brest wasn’t uniatism, didn’t raise any red flags?

But you’re right in saying that the Balamand Statement doesn’t prevent anyone from becoming Catholic. We don’t discourage Orthodox from becoming Catholic.
