We lived in NYC for a long time. My family used to go to St. Francis Parish and fell in love with the Franciscans for their warmth, love, kindness, and understanding (particularly during confession).

We just moved to Southern CA. There are no Franciscans to be found. We have easy access to 5 churches in my area. None come close to the “magic” of New York City.

We are regular folks of modest means. Is there a way to build a Franciscan Church where I live. I was inspired by this buddhist monk who, in poverty, raised many many millions of dollars to build a temple that would draw people from all over the world. I thought: If a monk could build something like this for the Budhists, Could I do something like this for the Catholics and specify who I wanted to occupy and run the development.

Would it be a problem if my church bankrupts all the other churches in the region?

I always said I would build my family a beautiful church if I won the lottery. What if I didn’t have to win the lottery–is this possible?

If youfeel like it, go!
But everything is in God’s Hands.
As for the other Churches, they are in God Ahnds too… maybe they will come to fill yours…

LOL you remind me of St Francis who heard Jesus say “repair my church” and he thought he meant San Damiano.

Go build a church, Plane. In the process I hope you find out what you were supposed to do 🙂

St Simon and Jude in Huntington Beach CA is staffed by Franciscans. The Missions were founded by the Franciscans, and they still run many of them.

Thanks for the sweet replies! We will definitely check out the missions and the church in huntington beach. Those places are over 100 miles from where I live. I would be a nice day trip to pay a visit. I’m kind of envisioning something closer.
