Hi everyone.

I have some friends who had stopped going to church altogether and ceased believing in the existence of God. They say that He does not seem apparent to them and that he cannot be proven. I try to explain concepts of the Catholic faith here and there, but all of this is futile as their hearts seemed to have hardened like how the Israelites hardened their hearts when it comes to divorce. Is there anything in my power that I can do to help them get back to Christ?

I had only gotten out of a serious state of depression after a strenuous High School year, so I hope that I can grow more in the summer to better prepare myself and hopefully learn some methods of evangelization as well. 👍

Yes, two important things.

First, pray. A saint once said: “some people need us to talk to them about God, some people need us to talk to God about them.” Pray for their conversion, in a special way through the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and appealing to the Sacred Heart of our Beloved. Such appeals, if united with the offerings of the little sacrifices of daily life and the obedient fulfillment of your duties, will never be in vain!

Second, let your walking be your preaching. If this is not harmful to you, remain their friend, and increase in patience, charity, and humbleness, being always ready to calmly and peacefully uphold the dignity of the Catholic Church and her doctrine. Your life preaches more than any words you may put together.

I am sorry for your time of great trial, and I pray for you and that you may find a spiritual director to adapt a more serene way of life, including times of prayer and times of recreation in order to fulfill the duties of your state of life with greater peace.

If you want to look into evangelization, I found a most worthy resource in the books
  • Handbook of Christian Apologetics
  • Handbook of Catholic Apologetics
  • History of the Catholic Church from the Apostolic Age to the Third Millennium
Of course, there are plenty more! Let the Spirit be your guide on these matters, for it is He who forms us. Other readings include the Catechism (beginning with the Compendium), the writings of the Church Fathers (there are some wonderful “tracts” on Catholic.com), and the writings of the saints, our friends in heaven.

It can be near impossible to show people the existence of God to people with a closed mind and heart… We are just ending the trip of a life time… ( still in Paris ). We saw amazing things that you can only see by yourself, and understand the meaning, yet there were non believers that still refused to see, there are none so blind as those that refuse to see… Best thing to do is keep your faith to yourself, believe with all your might, with all your heart, because real life experience of god is in my opinion more powerful than what people can say in words…

Pray for them. That is your duty as a Christian. And you can’t really do much more, at this point. By “preaching” you will make things worser then they are. And have faith, God will help you is you really want to help your friends.

There is a way to help them. You know already that it isn’t a just a matter of info that they need to bring them to God. It is grace to open their eyes to see the truth. A good many of the times that is just what must happen…grace…before they will accept anything someone might say to them. There are many reasons for this, but one very reocurring one is being indifferent. They don’t want to change or make any effort they don’t have to. So God’s grace is the thing that will tap into their heart and the light that needs to shine in their mind. This of course means prayer is needed to wake them up out of their lethergy. Whatever the reason, prayer is necessary because it the light of God that must touch them.

Mary gave us a solution to wake them up. Her green scapular, in fact that is exactly why she gave it to us to use, for those who have no faith or those who have drifted from their faith, or those who are weak in their faith. In addition she also said that if the green scapular was used properly that they would have a peaceful death.

Now she personally backs the green scapular by her own words if used the way she asked. It is important to understand that it really depends on the person giving the green scapular. They are the ones who must have absolute trust that Mary will carry out her promise of conversion. If that is missing, then it dosen’t work well. But it is so easy to have that trust in Mary because she herself gave it to us as her gift for us to use. She has never lied and there is no reason to think she would start now. It she says whe will restore their faith, then she will do it.

If the person you wish to give it too refuses to take it and carry it on them, then the scapular can be slipped to them without them knowing it, by putting it somewhere around them, like in their mattress, room, picture frame, sofa. It dosen’t have to be visable but merely around them.
It should also be blessed before doing this. The prayer on the scapular should be said for that person each and every day: “Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death.” It is also good to carry one yourself and also say the prayer for yourself every day as well.

One word of caution, she did not say when her promise would take place. So we must be patient and persistent, and above all, trusting absolutely that it will happen because she said so.

One of the easiest ways to slip it to them is in the sofa, in the crevice under the cushion.
The flower vase is another good place.

You can get them here for free. greenscapular.org/scapulars.html

May God bless and keep you. May God’s face shine on you. May God be kind to you and give you peace.
