Hi all,

For the most part I find it can be easy to get along with most people as most people are kind, tolerant and lovely but then on rare occasion I have an interaction with someone who speaks in abrasive/brusque ways and makes an assumptions or misunderstanding about myself or something I have said.

For some reason some people use an mannerism over the internet which I doubt they would use face to face in everyday interactions.

I used to have my CAF profile set to open but now I have felt compelled to change it to private because this one person took it upon themselves to crawl through my posts, point out solely the negative ones and then make big assumptions/unfounded connections about my life.

I feel this was uncharitable and Mathew 7.5 comes to mind.

On my side, I am as much to blame because I feel it is much easier to act Christian until someone really “tries you” like this person.

If I was more like Jesus says to be, then I would not have allowed myself to get dragged into bickering with this individual…
Stupid me.

Forgiving & bearing offenses patiently can be much easier in theory than in practice when an individual is negatively criticising you or making unfounded connections which are from their own mind and not factual.

Is there a way to increase Spiritual works of mercy so that I could have acted more like “proper Christian” with this person?

Simply pray for them and remind yourself that God loves them. I find that those two things are enough of an effort when someone is going out of their way to be annoying.

Then put it out of your mind.

Thanks Tis_Bearself

Problem is I am not happy with how I responded to it either.
It’s impossible to change anyone else but it’s possible to change ourself and if I was less “stupid” then I wouldn’t have responded at all no matter how many times a person tries to poke or create negativity …

Oh well, I guess I can only learn to do better in the future.

Yes, that’s what Christianity is all about. Learning from our mistakes, sometimes making the same mistake over and over, but always getting back up and striving to do better in the future.

Just keep getting back up and trying again. Next time, try to do better.

You are not the first or the last. I used to get dragged into such debates until one day the words of St Paul changed my life: ’ Reject a divisive man after a first and second admonition, knowing that such a man is corrupt and sinful; he stands self-condemned.’ - Titus 3:10-11
