How can I stop worrying? I have been having a real problem worrying. The two big areas I worry is about driving and weather.

A few years ago I was in a car crash and for a long time I worried that something bad would happen when I drove by myself. I finely got to where that was not so much of a problem. Until last Saturday when I had some guy who seemed drunk try to run me off the road. Now I am scared to drive by myself again.

And the other is about the weather. I am scared that when the weather gets bad that i will be trapped on the road and get hit by a tornado or something. And tomorrow and Thursday the weather is suppose to be pretty bad. And I have to go to school and back and I am worrying so much about that that I cant even get excited about school. How can I stop worrying so much?

Hi Turbo,

The first thing I’ll say is that prayer is an excellent resource for anxiety. You may want to talk to your priest or a friend who has a good prayer life and discuss some strategies to “let go and let God.”

I might also suggest meeting with a professional therapist. It sounds like your anxiety is really interfering with your life. A therapist can help you find practical solutions with talk therapy, and also prescribe medication if you both decide it’s a good option. There are lots of medications out there that can help.

The last thing I would suggest is that you try to avoid specific triggers when you can. If driving is stressful (which it just is, let’s face it), how about taking the bus? My husband and I are car-free and loving it. Unfortunately, it’s harder to avoid the weather, but avoiding driving might make your life easier.

God bless,
