Do you listen to any voices while communicating with God, how do you differ between your inner voice and conscience and God’s voice.

Just spend time with Him and you will get to know the leading of the Holy spirit, that still small voice within…

On important decisions it is always good to discern with someone else whom you respect and trust.

I haven’t read it yet, but it’s on my reading list, Mark Twain’s Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc.

Twain was a skeptic, but he was fascinated with Joan of Arc. A teenager who lead an army.

I am not too terribly interested in this aspect of her life, but her “voices” figured prominently in her successes in battle. If she followed them the French were successful in battle, if she didn’t hear from them and moved forward on her own they floundered. I don’t believe even she heard God’s voice, but a number of Saints including St. Catherine and St. Michael the Archangel.

It would not be prudent to disclose if someone heard the Almighty, because that is a private revelation and the number of people who have is minute in the Bible. I believe is someone really heard His voice they would probably keep it to themselves. From what I understand, angels, the spiritual beings and other humans, are used for relaying information to humans.

For instance sometimes a person might give you the very words of encouragement or inspiration you need to complete a project or a second wind after disappointment.

I forgot to add this: I have more than once heard that if you wanted to know what God says, it’s written down for us in the Bible.

My conscience has no authority to it. It doesn’t command me to do anything. God, on the other hand, does give me commandments; for example, He told me that I’m not allowed to listen to music that has profanity, graphic violence, blasphemy or sexually explicit material (in the lyrics). Before I got saved, I listened to that kind of music all the time. My conscience can’t make a decision for me, but God does. Moreover, I can get to know God’s (name removed by moderator)ut on a topic by praying about it. I ask Him if it’s OK to pursue such-and-such and He responds.

I believe that God still speaks today. In fact, one of the gifts of the Spirit that Paul talked about in 1Corinthians 12 was about was prophecy. The only way to get a prophetic word is if God gives it to you.

God seldom says any thing ridiculous.
That’s the difference.
Ask yourself: Does this make good moral sense, or am I thinking what I want to think?

CCC 1776 says his conscience is man’s most secret core and his sanctuary where he is alone with God whose voice echoes within and which must be obeyed. I would say then one must have faith that it is God’s voice.

We need to, however, distinguish between properly formed conscience and our own thoughts or desires.
