Hello everyone. I am friends with a young Atheist. He is on my AIM friend’s list. Anyway, is in his late teens or early 20s? Do you have any advice on how to witness to him?

Now that’s a hard one. Proving the authenticy of the Catholic faith to a protestant is much easier than evangelising an Atheist. You cannot prove them wrong via argument, they must find the faith attractive.

Well, I did show them a Catholic Answers radio talk show called “Deconstructing Atheism” and he did listen to it. I haven’t yet found out what he thought about it.

As an atheist myself, my recommendation would be to present evidence for the “supernatural” beliefs of your religion, including the belief that a god exists.

The term “atheist” just means without belief in a god. Atheists like myself would give no weight to argument that try to reverse the burden of proof by saying, “You atheists cannot prove the non-existence of god,” so if he is an atheist for what I would consider good reasons, this would do little to change his beliefs.

Well, I am not sure but I think the radio talk show I sent him does try to prove the existence of God.

Being kind and seeing Jesus in him.

Just a thought.
