So that weā€™ll have something to look forward to. This life is only a shadow of the next; itā€™s a prison compared to Heaven. Besides, if God were to remove all evil from this life, we would all be toast because we are all sinful. Godā€™s plan is to train the human will to rely on Him and to worship Him, in all circumstances.

Moreover, God allows us a degree of freedom. If God were to force us all to become believers, where would the freedom be? God is so good to allow us to follow Him or not. Of course, following Him is the right decision to make, but He does not force anyone to believe. God has chosen to display the fullness of His attributes. In the salvation of His people, He shows His grace and mercy. In the damnation of a people, He shows His wrath and holiness. The Bible is God centered-- not man centered.

To give the opportunity of practicing virtue. Suffering brings people together, creating sympathy and compassion, and it brings people to God in prayer.

One of my favorite sayings from St Anthony of the Desert:
When the same Abba Anthony thought about the depth of the judgments of God, he asked, "Lord, how is it that some die when they are young, while others drag on to extreme old age? Why are there those who are poor and those who are rich? Why do wicked men proper and why are the just in need? He heard a voice answering him, ā€œAnthony, keep your attention on yourself; these things are according to the judgment of God, and it is not to your advantage to know anything about them.ā€

A). For reasons we will not know until we pass from this life.
B). For a greater good, even if we canā€™t see it.
C). To protect us from worse things.
D). For reasons we do realize or will soon realize.

Oxford dictionary bad, adjective:
  • of poor quality or a low standard.
  • not such as to be hoped for or desired; unpleasant or unwelcome.
Bad things happen due to imperfection. The universe was created imperfect and humans can error morally.

Catechism on Providence
302 Creation has its own goodness and proper perfection, but it did not spring forth complete from the hands of the Creator. The universe was created ā€œin a state of journeyingā€ ( in statu viae ) toward an ultimate perfection yet to be attained, to which God has destined it. We call ā€œdivine providenceā€ the dispositions by which God guides his creation toward this perfection ā€¦

307 ā€¦ God thus enables men to be intelligent and free causes in order to complete the work of creation, to perfect its harmony for their own good and that of their neighbors. ā€¦

Wherever there is good, the devil will try and hover.
Like the fields of wheat and the darnel, one day the good will be saved and the evil condemned to eternal death.

I shall Pray!

God bless you
