New charges in the growing tissue scandal are bringing shocking details of what was going on in the back rooms of funeral homes in Rochester, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. A team of three to four surgical extractors - -known as “cutters” dressed in surgical gowns and caps performed the extractions on embalming tables right in funeral homes. Often, the procedures were done late at night or early in the morning when funeral directors were not present.
