How did Lucifer fall?

Catholic doctrine states that Adam and Eve were tempted by Satan to eat the tree of knowledge of evil. My question is how did Satan fall? What caused him to know evil? I’ve heard people say his pride corrupted him, but then where did his pride come from?

Pride came from Lucifer who had freewill. Before he fell he was not yet in heaven for those in heaven are there permanently. Once in heaven always in heaven.

So he was tested just as Adam and Eve were tested. But just what this test was we do not know since we were not told. But it was the sin of pride that he committed because he didn’t have a body, he was a pure spirit. So the sin had to be of the intellect and will, which fits pride.

When he is described as falling from heaven, the heaven mentioned meant somewhere above earth in the upper sky since that is the understanding the bible writer would have at that time of the world. But in reality, it wasn’t the heaven as we understand heaven where the saints are.

So he didn’t really fall at all, because again he is a pure spirit, and spirits do not have any weight or gravity to work on and pull them down. By fall it meant that he fell from God’s pleasure and goodness. It was then that hell began, for hell is to be seperated from God.

I believe the acount of Satan’s fall is in the Acts.

Everything God created is good. Lucifer was good. Evil is the absence, or diminishment, of good; it has no reality in itself, it’s to choose a lesser good over a greater one.

According to Aquinas, pride is inordinate self-love; self-love, in itself, being a good which God created us to have. Lucifer dwelled on that good, idolizing it, twisting it into something it was not intended for: self-adulation. God, alone, is all-in-all.

God, alone, is perfect in wisdom, incapable of evil, incapable of straying away from perfect truth and righteousness. Only created beings with free wills have that capacity-that potential for falling, by straying away from the source of their own perfection, their own natures, their own righteousness. We’re here to learn of the fallacy of such a choice. We’re here to learn of our undeniable need for God. God exalts the humble and opposes the proud. Pride opposes God and exalts the self.
