The big difference between Christmas celebration now and the 1960’s here in the United States has nothing to do with Vatican 2.
Most Catholics in the 1960’s were still connected to the old country, the ancestors who arrived at the beginning of the 20th Century were often still around, the communities we lived in were more dominated by particular ethnic groups and other Catholics.
Since then, we’ve separated our selves more from the past, largely integrated more with the whole culture, and Catholic Christmas has more in common with American Christmas celebration.
