How do I defend the Church's teaching on free will to a Calvinist?

I am in a discussion with a coworker who is a Calvinist. He is adamant in what I understand as predestination; that I have no choice in faith, that since I am follower of the Catholic Church, God has most likely not chosen me. Only if I “convert” to Calvinism would I then be proven to be chose by God. How can I justify the Church’s stance of free will?
