Hi, I enjoy studying and sharing my faith but I feel like I need help articulating the basics to others (the Gospel). How would you communicate the Gospel to someone? Or if you know of any good resources I could read or listen to I’d love for you to direct me to them! Thank you.

I was thinking earlier about hypothetical things I would say to explain what the Gospel was in a basic way that was intelligable. Here is my train of thought.

Our sin keeps us from being intimate with God, who is pure love and righteousness, the source of our life and well being. God loves us and wants us to be with Him.
God, in Jesus Christ, took on our humanity and bore our sins and it’s consequence, death. He conquered sin and death through His resurrection. We need to come to know Jesus so that through Him we can die to our sin and be made new so that we can share in God’s life. Jesus is seeking us to be in an intimate, saving, relationship with Him, it is our role to respond to Him through repentence.

What would you guys say? Any suggestions as to how I could articulate the Gospel more effectively? I understand that different people would benefit the most from differing ways of saying it, I would like to know a good basic way or good alternative ways of articulating it to people. Also, since there is more to evangelization than the words we use, if anyone has tips on other aspects of it those would be welcome too, but I’m mostly looking for the right way to put the Gospel into words that are understandable.

Thank you!

I don’t have a great answer for you, but there is something that occurred to me a while ago.

Almost everyone in Christian-Western society, whether they understand the gospel or not, perceives the cross and Jesus as religious symbols. And yet, in 1st century Rome, the cross was a torture device used on the most despicable of criminals. To the Romans, and to the Jews, the cross meant defeat, in every sense of the word. The Jewish messiah was expected to be worldly savior, who rescued the Jewish people from political domination. He was supposed to successful, not a failure. When Jesus was taken to the cross, it was a perceived failure. In being resurrected, Jesus transformed weakness, failure, and that which is despicable into triumph. So, when we see a person who has failed, or a person who is despised by those around him, or a person who is hungry and weak, we see Jesus today here on earth. We see the cross. When we respond in love, like Jesus, we transform the world.

Jesus was entirely innocent. He never sinned. He healed and He loved. His goodness was like a bright shining light. For those who loved evil, his bright shining light was like spotlight that revealed how despicable they were. Jesus’ goodness incited those who did not want their hearts revealed to ruthlessly torture him on the cross. But for those who loved truth, Jesus was a supernatural call to a different way of life.

I think AngelsUnaware has got great advice here. On your approach what I was concerned about was your upright focus on sin. That’s a killer in these days because to judge is unforgivable, and talk of sin is a huge turn-off to so many. Sin is a concept effectively denied by the times.

I focus on love and grace. Also, the meaning of the Word made flesh, the revelation and incarnation of God Himself.

Sin is not a dead concept because modernity has challenged its basis. “Sin” is simply thought to be a ridiculous concept if you reject that God exists. But, as atheists will go to the mat with much protestation to tell you, they still have a sense of right and wrong. They know “wrong”, but they don’t recognize “sin”.

Ask them, “How?”

They can’t answer this. They are feeling their way blind on this. Sin, wrong and evil are real and abundantly evident. They cannot dispute this. How do they know, however?

They know because they can see that the right, the true, the just exist. With Christ, we can see how. If you start off with sin, however, they are likely to write you off instantly without giving you a hearing.

Love and hope are so much better, and so much more true, than guilt and judgement.

What has worked for me is what has worked for those that have come before me and that is living your faith(belief system),walking the talk(go out and preach the gospel and if needed use words).I used to practice carrying the infant Jesus in my arms and when I met people I would quietly present him to them. Then I practiced recieving Him when I would meet other people(sometimes I had to look for Him).I have learned there are many baits that a fisherman uses and there are many types of fish that are out there so first what type of fish are you going fishing for (remember fishing takes patience)
Keep it simple and easy does it
remember to buffet the flesh before you preach or you must disqualifiy yourself form preaching ,

Be not afraid or ashamed .He will go before you. Before I go out I always pray and hope and not worry because He is in control.
To gain into a house there must be an opening you must find that opening asometomes the door is locked and you have to use a key.As it has been said before use your smile it is the key to the heart and it will ope the portal to the soul.
Remember truth hurts and I would rather give the truth instead of seeing a soul perish. It is through grace that faith is given .I can never force myself on anyone’s free will but if i live what I want to preach then they might want what I have and then I can offer it.When the people were stoning my house and threatening me i asked the lord if I can get upset with them and he said no because they do not know Him and His laws,so I said can I be mad at them if I put up the ten commandments and He said no ,Then He said you must teach them wow that meant I surely better be living them myself and then I went and had the jesuits interpret the ten commandments into their language and had it made into a plague and put it on my outside wall in big two inch letters .it worked the parents and children and all the people that walked by my little place saw it and some even took the time to read it.The children help me to practice saying it in their language and in return it is implanted into them…Sometimes when it is time for the children to go home and the mother or father come to get them and the children give them a hard time I point to the plague
and have them read the fourth commandment ,sometimes the child frowns but the parent smiles.oh how beautiful it is to how they are learning our Heavenly Father’s commandments,Now there is the our Father and the beautitudes and I am going to have a plague concerning the two commandments our Lord Jesus gave us and the Hail Mray.I make sure the writings are visible and that I can explain it when asked and yes I invite all that I know to pray with me.This is what is working for me and I do not push it on them it is there and I do my best to present it in the best way I know how.

Live the Gospel and ask God to make you docile to His inspirations. He will teach you how to preach His glad tidings.
