How do I explain praying to the Saints to children?

I am a catechist of 10 year olds at my church. How do I explain the difference between praying to God or Jesus and asking a saint to intercede? They don’t understand the difference. They ask questions like, “Is the Hail Mary a prayer to Mary?”
