How do I explain the Communion of Saints and Ghosts?

Recently my boyfriend’s pastor’s wife has challenged me about my faith. She kept telling me that saints cannot pray for us because they are with God already and it defeats the purpose of Jesus dying on the cross. I told her its no different than me asking you to pray for me. That their prayer is even stronger because they are with God. And that she has it reversed that we cannot pray for people in heaven because they are with God but they can pray for us. And she asked where I got that idea. I just know it because it is common sense. Do you know where that teaching came from in the Bible or where it states it in the Catechism?

Also she states that ghosts are not of God. I do not know of how she got that idea. I do not know anything about the subject. Do you know of a good book I could read or article?

Also should I stop going for a while because she started talking to me? or should I wait to see if it gets worse? Should I stop going to both the occasional service and fellowships or just the services? I am just not sure how to handle it because he is my boyfriend. If it was just a friend I would walk away from that place and never look back
