How do I explain the Intercession of Saints?

My girlfriend was baptized as a Catholic but grew up as a Born Again Christian. One day, she asked me this question. Do saints really intercede when you pray with their intercession/s? Is there a biblical evidence for this?..please help me to answer the question…I want her back as a Catholic.
