No one, not even a spouse, and not even among Catholics, should take personal offense when someone chooses not to receive the sacraments for any reason. In other words, even if you were both Catholics it would not be appropriate for your husband to pressure you in any way to receive the sacraments if and when you were unprepared to do so. As this is a matter of basic respect for the freedom of conscience and personal dignity of others, I recommend refusing to allow yourself to be drawn into arguments about it. Just say, “I’ve already explained that to you as best as I can. I know it’s a difficult situation and that we’re both feeling spiritually lonely, but it won’t help to nag me about this.” Then change the subject.
