Ok, I am going to admit that I don’t have a clue on this one, so please help me out.

I have a couple of friends that have died way too young, and I have concerns that at least one of them did not die in a state of grace. The other one, I know, at least had the opportunity to confess prior to death.

The point is, I am a new Catholic, and I was wondering if there is some kind of a guideline that I should be following as I pray for their souls.

Hope this does not make me too stupid sounding, but I really loved these guys.

Thanks all!

This is one of the best-known and simplest prayers for the dead - I say it every day for my friends and relatives who have died:

‘Eternal Rest grant unto them O Lord
And let Perpetual Light shine upon them
And may they Rest in Peace. Amen.’

Or very simply if you’re saying other prayers - the Our Father, Rosary, attending Mass or what have you, just say ‘I offer this prayer/mass for my friends who have died’ before you say it.

The Lord knows that you care for them despite your uncertainties, we all share them, after all we can never really know the state of another’s soul. I don’t think more need be said.

I’ll add the souls of your friends to my prayers as well :blessyou:

God our Father, Your power brings us to birth, Your providence guides our lives, and by Your command we return to dust.
I pray for the dead, especially (name a person/s). May those who have been dear to me in life find a place with You in Heaven.
Lord, those who die still live in Your presence; their lives change but do not end. I pray in hope for my family, relatives, and friends, and for all the dead known to You alone.
In company with Christ Who died and now lives may they rejoice in Your Kingdom where all our tears are wiped away. Unite us together again as one family, to sing Your praise forever and ever.
Amen.

I have heard that if a soul may be in pergatory, then it would
cost $700 for a priest to recite:“CREDO IN UNUM DEUM”
and “PATER NOSTER” at the persons grave. If done in the
month of September for some reason the lost soul would
transmigrate to heaven through this sanctified petition. You
can memorize them yourself through reinforcement in about
3 days of work.

Keep your eye on God.

I think someone is pulling your leg because that’s nonsense.

For the uninitiate it would seem like nonsense, but angels
don’t speak English. It really doesn’t matter to me if you
don’t believe, this job doesn’t pay me enough to convince you.
Ask a greater authority then me.

First you should state the source of your information so we can access it and read it. If you don’t have a source then its simply hearsay and I doubt if you will get too many posters commenting.

For my information what do you mean by “angels don’t speak English”? What has that to do with your post?

What job are you talking about?

Ever heard the expression “out in left field”? OK, I’ll give the benefit of the doubt and play along.

1.) No priest is going to charge somebody $700 to say a prayer at a person’s grave. That’s a sacrilege, simony. If you truly know of a priest who does such a thing, report him at once to your bishop. If you somehow have proof that this is the real deal, then I have simply GOT to phone my pastor. He is missing a real money-making opportunity.
2.) My guardian angel speaks English; at least, the times I’ve felt the presence of that noble being, it wasn’t through a translator. I should think angels would speak the tongues of all the earth’s languages, current and so-called “dead”, along with Klingon, old COBOL code, and Esperanto, if that’s what it takes to get through the hard heads of humans. I suppose you are under the assumption that angels only speak one language. If you tell me it’s Latin, then are you telling me the Blessed Mother, her cousin’s husband Zachary, and the Old Testament patriarchs (very pre-Roman) were all spoken to in Latin by angels?
3.) The month of the Poor Souls is November.
4.) What are your cites? Where’d you get this information?

My favorite prayer for souls comes, apparently, out of the “old” Requiem Mass, and is a choice for prayer in the current Mass:

To You, O Lord,

we recommend the soul

of Your servant

INSERT NAME HERE,

that being dead

to this world

he may live to You,

and whatever sins

he committed through

human frailty,

we beseech You in Your goodness

to pardon,

through Christ, Our Lord,

Amen.

I don’t waist much time on scoffers.
I heard my information on a Catholic radio program.
God Almighty the Eternal Father communicates only
in Tarot like symbolism(visual psychometry).
Hebrew,Greek,Latin are very invocatively powerful languages
in the Messianic Plane.

fere libenter homines id quod volunt credunt
~people are generally glad to believe what they want to be true is so
CAESAR De Bello Gallico

vescere bracis meis

Keep your eye on Almighty God the Eternal Father.

I’m curious. Your profile says you are Roman Catholic. Where in catholic teachings does it say what you have just informed us of?

The information is esoteric.
So burn me and call me a heretic.

What’s the point in being in this thread if you refuse to discuss anything?

If your going to flame me, then I suggest you all stay on
topic and “eat dirt”.(humble yourselves)
And I will endeavor to do the same.

Ask a priests about having some Masses said for them.

Prayer of St. Gertrude the Great for the Holy Souls in Purgatory

Our Lord dictated the following prayer to St. Gertrude the Great to release 1,000 Souls from Purgatory each times it is said:

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.

You are the one who made a post #4 and have refused to discuss it despite comments and questions from posters.
Why are you being so rude?

I am otherwise engaged.
When you stop gipping and complaining and kvetching
and think of some solutions to answering your
onslaught of questions, let me know then
what “YOU” come up with. For only then will I be
interested in what you have to add.
