Hi. I’m tired of living a life of sin. I haven’t been able to confess for the last two moths and it has been quite detrimental to my spiritual life. I want to come back to God and get to know him intimately. I want my first ‘post-covid confession’ to be a turning point.

How can I prepare to review my life, and make a true confession of all my life?

How can I determine my many faults adn the roots of my sins, specially impurity?

Any advice is welcome, and any prayers are welcome too.

Around March 7, I think. More than two months I think. I’ve been struggling with impurity for years, and the only good thing I got out of this sin is that it brought me back to frequent confession around twice a month due to my weakness. But I want to quietly review my life with some ‘distance’.

On one hand, I feel the need to get closer to God, to know Him in an intimate way. On the other one, I feel I’m spiritually mediocre, full of faults and completely stuck in adolescent sinning. And as I’m turning 30 soon, I can’t help but think that I’m approaching a turning point in my life. I don’t know if it makes mych sense, but I can’t explain it in a better way.

“General confession” is not for someone who just confessed a couple months ago (unless you are about to enter a religious order or something similar, which doesn’t sound like the case.)

Especially now, when the priests are dealing with a lot of people who haven’t been able to confess for 2 months as well as with other things, and will be looking to move people expeditiously in and out of confession.

It sounds more like you are looking for spiritual direction or guidance, and confession (especially now) is not the right vehicle. For your next confession, focus on telling the grave sins you committed during the last 2 months since your last confession. For the spiritual guidance part, make a separate appointment with a priest to discuss outside of confession.

Sounds like you are at a turning point …good for you. Remember to ask God for the grace of true repentance and the grace not to sin. Just to say, if you think it may be a longer than normal confession you may want to book an appointment with your priest if you can in these times. Especially if you want time to get things off your chest and advice.

Maybe I could substitute the word “general” by “exhaustive”. But I’ll take your advice and save it for later, and just confess the recent and grave sins. You’re right this may not be the best moment. In any case, God knows my heart better than I do. For both the good and the bad.
