How do I prepare for my First Confession?

I am trying to prepare for my first reconciliation. I am terrified out of my mind. I have never learned how to forgive. Mostly to forgive myself. I have so many years of sinning, I don’t understand how all of it can just go away. I am paralyzed by regret and self-loathing.

Yes, I know the responses. If God can forgive me, I am arrogant to not trust His ability to do so. There were several other similar responses, which makes me not want to mention it further. People mean well, but…

I am looking forward to talking to my priest. If I can stop crying…
