Hi, I would like some ideas if anyone is or has been a confirmation teacher. What can I do to prepare my self. I can’t dive in to it yet since my kids are too little. I don’t want to waste time if there is something I can do. I love reading and I do read a lot of Catholic books. I have such a hard time remember Bible Versus they all get jumbled in my brain so if anyone has suggestions would be great. thanks

Do you mean at your parish?

In my parish, the DRE looks for teachers who have demonstrated that they are really strong in their faith and who are familiar enough with Church teaching to give solid answers to the kinds of questions teens ask. Generally, the teachers who are asked to teach the Confirmation classes have several years of teaching younger grades. If your diocese has a Catechist training program, that would be a good start too.

If you want to be a catechist, start attending the seminars and classes offered by your Diocese.
It will take approx. 20 hours of classes and some classroom observation to get Basic certified.
Once you have that under your belt, you can start on Youth Ministry specifically.

If you are homeschooling, then make sure you use an approved curriculum, and stick to it. The Faith Formation people at the diocesan level can help you and give you resources. Try to get a spiraling curriculum that presents age appropriate lessons at each successive grade level, and by the time they are old enough fro Confirmation, they should have a good foundation.
Confirmation prep should be done “in community” IMHO. Like in a dedicated class where everyone is learning together, and they have wonderful retreats and highly qualified teachers.
Good luck!

I’d start as an assistant in the Confirmation year class.
