My fathers sells things (at markets and so on).
Lately he has not made many sales and recently stated to me “do you think someone has put a curse on my business and is this possible?”

When i stated to him thats its much more likely/realistic that the stuff he is trying to sell has simply gone “out of fashion” (old electricals et/c) he wasn’t very receptive to this response.

I also laughed abit when he mentioned curse and he wasn’t receptive to me laughing either.
I think i was probably nervous laughing as the idea that he could believe his business could have been cursed made me uncomfortable/a bit fearful as i didnt like the topic and didn’t know how to handle the situation.

I dont really believe in curses, but to be totally honest i dont even 100% know if they are or arnt possible?

Are they possible and do they hold any “power” or is this superstition?

At any rate i don’t want my dad thinking this as im 100% certain that his sales are not cursed (regardless of whether curses are real or not in general) and its just a sign of the times (Ie:old electrics are out and new gadgetry such as Ipads etc are now in fashion).

Could anyone suggest a better way i could handle this if this “have i been cursed” conversation comes up again so i dont come from a place of panic and so i can make my dad see clearly that he hasn’t been cursed?

Get everything blessed

The sit down with a business consultant and your father and have a “come to Jesus” talk.

There’s no such thing as curses. When something bad happens, or a business or endeavor fails, it’s common to say “I’m cursed, the curse of the bambino, etc…” but sometimes it’s just bad luck, or a combination of things, but there are no such things as spells, curses, and the like.

You are incorrect. Curses and spells do exist, only people often don’t understand that they are actually a diabolical attack, not some mystical power which has intrinsic capability.

A “spell” is nothing more than a person calling upon diabolical preternatural powers to bring about some effect. With the permission of God, it can work.

So it is conceivable that some sort of curse or spell could be applied against a business by a witch or some other Satanic worshipper - it is just highly unlikely that such a thing would happen.

Actually, you are incorrect. There is no scientific proof of any curse or spell. Fact.

Haha, you think I am saying “scientific proof”, as in “material evidence” could exist for spells or curses? Of course not! Just like such evidence does not exist for God.

We use the experience of Catholic exorcists and those who live an active life of combat against the diabolical as evidence for these things.

Trust me, I believe in luck, but I also know that it doesn’t really exist. Similarly the same with spells and curses. It’s called a placebo effect.

Are you aware of the existence of demons, and the fact that they can have influence in this world with the permission of God?

Diabolical attack is well documented and has been fought by the Church since Christ. That’s what exorcists are for. They are real, and there are, sadly, humans on this earth who do the bidding of demons.

again, placebo effect.
Whether those undergoing the exorcism are truly possessed by spirits or demons is another matter entirely. Exorcisms are done on people of strong religious faith. To the extent that exorcisms “work,” it is due to the power of suggestion and psychology: If you believe you’re possessed (and that an exorcism will cure you), then it just might.

I’ll step into the fray just to say that, in my opinion, it is superstition. There must be ordinary, non-supernatural reasons for the business decline. Times are changing, and maybe the business (or your father) needs to adapt in order to become profitable again.

Let us pray for your father’s peace of mind and prosperity,
and that he may grow always in faith, hope, and love.

Well Jamie, I would suggest that you do some research on the history of exorcism, and also look up the definition of “placebo” effect, and judge for yourself whether the phenomena which have been witnessed by many people can be qualified as a placebo.

I can tell you right now: they can’t.
People don’t start fluently speaking languages they’ve never spoken before because of a placebo. Nor do their appearances and voices change when speaking through a placebo. Nor can the effect diabolical oppression be simply chalked up to a placebo effect or even a psychological illness when it is cured through prayer, fasting, and an exorcism.

This is serious, scary stuff. And I realize now that it’s not really the topic of the thread, so I shall lay off of it for now. 🙂

I would speak with a person in the business community and make an appointment to sit down and take a look at your father’s business and make sure there are not legitimate business reasons things are not gong well for him. I would do this before I worried about the business being cursed.

You note his products may be outdated and newer products have taken their place.

I would tell him “let’s sit down and speak to a consultant in business to see where the business may be having problems before we consider a curse”. If after this visit you father is still concerned about a curse I think a visit to the priest for your father would be in order to address the situation.

Best wishes with this issue.

Exactly right! A word search of the bible shows that “curse” appears 178 times.
