How do I say Grace?

I feel SO silly having to ask this question hahaha! How do I say the “Catholic” Grace before and after meals?
Thanks!!!
 
Our family says “Bless us O Lord and these thy gifts which we are about to recieve from thy bounty, through Christ our Lord, Amen” then we add “thank you Jesus, God bless the cook.”
 
Do you know the “eternal rest” prayer too?? I hear a lot of folks add that after the Grace prayer…but I’ve forgotten how it goes!

Eternal rest grant unto them (him/her) Oh Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them (him/her).
May the souls of the faithfully departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen
 
The after meal prayer we say:

“We give Thee thanks for all Thy benefits, O Almighty God, who livest and reignest forever. Amen. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.”
 
My family combined both the before and after prayers into one and we pray it before meals.
Bless us, O Lord, and these Thy gifts which we are about to receive from Thy bounty through Christ our Lord. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

We tack on a “Hail Mary” after saying grace. I believe this originated in the midwest during the Great Depression. My husbands’ whole extended family (from Cincinatti) does this, but I’d never heard of it before meeting him.

You’re welcome. 😃 It’s been fun teaching our little boys to say it. They’re so sweet.
 
This is what we do in our family:

One person leads the prayer we wait until everyone is ready…

… Make the Sign of the Cross

… Say the memorized prayer “Bless us oh Lord” or another sweet one “Thank you for the world so sweet, thank you for the food we eat, thank your for the birds that sing, thank you Lord for everything.” another…even the “Lord’s Prayer” we let whomever is leading choose which prayer.

…Then my husband or I pray spontaneously for friends or family who need special prayers, or for our family’s mission, that we know and follow God’s Will.

…Then we ask for special intentions and our kids usually add to the prayer
… then we dig in and enjoy our meal together at the table. Sometimes we listen to music, but we NEVER have the tv on! This is special family time.

There is another tradition we want to start, praying the rosary together after our meals, all cuddled up and cozy on the couch.

We say Bless us O Lord and these gifts which we are about to recieve from thy bounty, and through Christ our Lord, Amen.

My brother and I, as kids aways thought is sounded funny so we changed it.

That sounds like a wonderful idea to me!:yup:
 
My younger brother married a Lutheran. Their children have been raised Catholic. Their meals start with a sign of cross, followed a Lutheran form of grace, then the sign of the cross again, followed by the Catholic grace, ending with the sign of the cross.
