Hi all,
I live in Melbourne, Australia, and tomorrow we have our State Election.
I have become more aware of how I should vote through reading the “CA How to Vote Guide”.
I delved into both political parties’ policies, and found the Labor party are going to try and decriminalise abortion if they are re-elected.
They have a note to this policy however, stating that it will go before Parliament as a “conscious vote”.
I have not been able to find out the Liberal party’s policy on this issue. But I have never liked Liberal, due to their other policies. Our Prime Minister is Liberal for those of you who don’t know much about the Australian political system.
I have an issue with the Greens so I don’t to vote for them.
I truly do like the Labor party’s policies and what Steve Bracks has done for my State so far.
However I don’t wish to vote for someone who may be the cause of abortion being legal here, even though it is unlikely due to the way laws are made here, with other members able to block bills etc.
What should I do? Take the chance Parliament will knock back the decriminalisation legislation when it is introduced if Labor win? Or take the chance that Liberal don’t have the same agenda?

I can’t give sound advice without knowing the position(s) of the individuals running for office relative to a variety of issues;

BUT I can say that once you have decided for whom to vote, let that person elected know YOUR position on the issues most important to you. Communicate regularly with those in office, especially when critical issues are being voted upon in the legislative chambers.

Thanks MountainMan,

I voted today and met my member whom I was voting for.

He is very nice and I have emailed him once, and I will take your advice and email him if I ever have concerns, after all we pay for him, we may as well make him work for us.

Thanks 🙂
