As I leave my office for sales calls, I’m confronted with a Billboard that includes a woman in a bikini. The billboard is for window tinting. As you and I know, the woman in the bikini has nothing to do with selling window tinting.

As I travel through my day, I sometimes stop at convenience stores for a drink or a snack. Once in while they sell pornography in these stores.

My dilemma is, it’s not enough to boycott these stores, cause they just never get it. I’d like to print up some business cards and leave them at these stores telling them I’m not going to do business with them because of these practices.

Is this a good idea, or has someone found a better way of doing something to stop this?

P.S. I’m not sure if this is the right forum for this. Can the mods forward this to the right group?

One soul at a time.

Souls are won by how we live and the love we show. Boycotting a store could be misleading because it really does not explain why we are upset about what a store sells (in context with the metioned type of store.) Also some view it as an attack on their “rights” and ability to purchase whatever they want, thereby pushing them further away. The way to get this stuff off the shelf is to change hearts and minds, and remove the market for these items.

I agree with ArAnMike. But remember not to get discouraged. As St. Pius X said:

“Who will prevent us from hoping that the flame of Christian charity may dispel the darkness from their minds and bring to them light and the peace of God? It may be that the fruit of our labors may be slow in coming, but charity wearies not with waiting, knowing that God prepares His rewards not for the results of toil but for the good will shown in it.”

But if I were to point out to these people that there are numerous people around who would love to shop here, if only they didn’t promote this type of garbage, then they may reconsider this? I mean, I could evangelize the minimum wage store clerk all I want, and it’s not going to affect the store owner.

It doesn’t have to be negative, it could just be, “TWIMC, I want you to know that there are people who pass up your place of business and choose other stores, simply because you choose to sell potentially offensive magazines and such. Should you choose to get rid of this material, you may find a larger influx of traffic in your store”. This at least lets them know that there is an unknown loss in revenue that may or may not offset the known benefit of selling this garbage. I don’t see it as “forcing my will” on anybody. It’s just me exercising my choice, in response to each store exercising their choice.

I understand the need for evangelizing and patience in our efforts.

But this billboard is seen by 10,000 people per day. It is contributing to what Laura Ingraham calls “The pornification of America”. At what point to we say, “Enough is enough”?

I did not mean to say that you would intend it to be negative, just that it would be interpreted that way. A letter to the company is different than a boycott however. Let me take another spin on this as well. The one store stops selling it, another still sells it. The other store is now getting the customers from the previous store. Nothing has changed execpt where this item is purchased. Change the customer and then the product will leave. And as far as the choosing another store in your comment, do you know of a gas station that does not sell offensive magazines, or a drug store that does not sell prophylactics? I am not saying that them selling it is correct, I just think that changing the customers heart and mind would be more effective.

Where I’m at, maybe 10% sell offensive magazines. Prophylactics? Oooh, busted. Nearly all of them do.

What do you think of the billboard issue.

I think it is terrible misuse of the beauty of women. Our culture breeds this kind of view of women as only a sexual satisfaction for the desires of men. That is another reason for looking to convert customers instead of companies. Also the tool manufactures produce calendars with women the do not dress modestly, and these calendars end up in those businesses that work on autos. I definitely would not patronize that business. One because I don’t have a desire to have my windows tinted, and two because of the billboard. I want to add that we should start in our own homes with explaining why these things are wrong. Couples that view sexual relations like this typically have only one or two children, where as those that truly understand these relations will have more. Our children’s children could win this battle.

I agree with this. I have cousens who left the catholic faith and joined other faiths who walk the night streets of town speaking the bible.

This is our catholic faith
On one occasion while praying to Jesus in the catholic church I had a vision of Jesus arm with a spike in the hand. I asked Him why and he just said who told you to preach? I told Him the bible.
Jesus just told me if I wish to do any good then give to the poor , help those who need it, help the youth.
This made sence and without speaking a word the faith I have in Jesus drew the youth to Jesus for they sure tried me and could not understand how one person could be so stronge so they became christians because they couldn’t beat my God.

Make sence? sure does.

God bless

Little by little and one soul at a time beginning with ones own soul.

I would probably write to the company that used this tacky advertisement. I would let them know that I would never consider doing business with them and that all my female friends would be made aware of how they objectify and degrade women in their advertisements. As a compulsive letter writer, I can guarantee that even if your letter has no immediate impact, it will make some type of impression and you will feel better for having taken some action.

To the extent you improve yourself and draw closer to God–to that extent you have changed the world.

:rotfl:This joke brought to you by the makers of Pampers!
It’s not a joke, it’s a profound truth.

Why would you change a diaper? Because it’s full of ****. So to change a world contaminated by all kinds of ****, deal with the **** in front of you.

And no, the forum did not censor my post. I typed those asterisks myself.

Uhhhhhh… ok…

You disagree?
No, I don’t disagree. I just wouldn’t put it that way.

Well, yeah, I do disagree. I don’t consider my environment as full of ****. It’s wonderful, but it does have some **** in it.
