The old testament is full of fearsome accounts of people not “resting” on the Sabbath, which for them I understand as sundown Friday until sundown Saturday.
I believe I am correct that we shifted to Sunday due to the Resurrection being on a Sunday but I also understand that attending Mass fulfills our obligation, we are to avoid servile work but, seemingly, collecting fire wood is allowed. (See Nehemiah) or cutting the grass, etc. I know of Jewish people who put a tarp on the lawn on Friday so that if they are sitting there on Saturday and spill a drink they are not watering the lawn.
So, what is appropriate for observing the Sabbath?
