well I mean in ordinary situations like the OP described 🙂 then, a sacramental Confession is necessary.

do you by any chance have a source for this teaching though? 🙂
I know that in life threatening situations, the priest could give a “general absolution” and then if people survive they should still go to Confession. But I don’t know if they’d be allowed to receive Communion after this “general absolution”. In addition, general absolution for non grave reasons is invalid.

Canon 916

thistle;8419832:
An Act of Perfect Contrition will forgive mortal sins should you die before getting to Confession. However, the act of perfect contrition is conditional upon the intent to get to Confession as soon as possible. It does not permit you to receive Communion before getting to Confession. One issue I see with this anyway is how could anyone be sure they had made an act pf perfect contrition. Its not just about saying the words but sincere repentence.
  • Nobody should be in the Communion line unless they are able to receive.
  • Non-Catholics and Catholics in a state of mortal sin are to stay in their seats. Blessings are NOT permitted although misinformed and misguided people go up for blessings and suddenly put the priest on the spot by standing in front of him./
QUOTE]

That is 100% Opposite of USA and other regions Catholic Bishops Conference Written, Published Norms. At each Funeral Mass I usher or attend, The Priest and Program State that anyone is Invited to be in line with hands crossed on shoulders to receive Blessing from the Priest. Come to think of it, Ditto at the Vatican Papal Masses, World Youth Day. Sure in the Phillipines people are forbiden-to/stay in Seats; No Blessing? I suggest Canon Law provides for Blessing, at least option. Priests know to feel honored at opportunity to give Blessing, if conditions permit.
You are wrong. Others have given you the link to the letter from The Congragtion for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Scaraments.
Blessing are NOT to be given to anyone in the Communion line and it specifically mentions non-Catholics, Catholics in a state of mortal sin and those under penalty of excommunication.

=JD27076;8419269]I now for a fact we go to confession for this forgiveness. But can we go to God for the repentance of our Mortal Sin if we are sorry? Because, my Parish only offers confession Saturday, Wednesday or by appointment. And what if I commit a Mortal Sin on Saturday night or Sunday morning. , I want be able to take communion. [Which is no big deal to me because im not a Catholic so I cant take it.] Are you allowed to receive a blessing in the state of Mortal Sin?
Thank you!! 👍
A Blessing Yes! Communion NO!

Forgiveness of Mortal sins must be through the Catholic sacrament of Confession

**1John.5: 16 to 17 **"If any one sees his brother committing what is not a mortal sin, he will ask, and God will give him life for those whose sin is not mortal. There is sin which is mortal; I do not say that one is to pray for that. All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin which is not mortal.

John.20: 20 to 23" When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained”

This is the Norm set by Jesus Himself following OT tradition of using priest [Lev. 4 and 5]

IN an ACTUAL/ REAL emergency one can make a “Perfect” act of sorrow / Contrition which last until one can as a PRIORITY get to Confession ASAP! A Perfect act of sorrow WILL include a change in LIFE STYLE and avoiding this sin in the future. [A MUST!].

Keep in mind our understanding of Perfect may not match God’s view; and God’s view is the one that counts.

NO Catholic can by pass Confession and receive Holy Communion with unconfessed and unforgiven Mortal sins. Period!

God Bless,
Pat

As far as I know Rome has only stated that the matter is under attentive study and has given us a list of observations why it should not be done. If you have a more recent link to back up your claim that Rome has asked that no blessings be given during Communion, we’d like to see it. That is not to suggest that we should ignore those observations that the CDWDS has issued. But it doesn’t sit well to see you chide someone else about spreading misinformation when you do that what you accuse someone else of.

For the time being, Communion Blessings are DISCOURAGED! The letter from the CDWDS already makes that clear. It is binding until the CDWDS says it’s okay.

“Discouraged” is not the same thing as saying that the CDWDS “has asked us not to give blessing in the Communion line”. To my knowledge there has never been a directive to correct this “abuse”. If you know of such a directive or can show us where they have “asked us not to…” please provide the link.

You are wrong. What they have stated in not an option. Read para 5. from the letter carefully. That is saying non-Catholics and Catholics in a state of mortal sin are not to go up for a blessing. That is not discouragement. That is an instruction.
  1. In a similar way, for others who are not to be admitted to Holy Communion in accord with the norm of law,** the Church’s discipline has already made clear that they should not approach Holy Communion nor receive a blessing**. This would include non-Catholics and those envisaged in can. 915 (i.e., those under the penalty of excommunication or interdict, and others who obstinately persist in manifest grave sin).
