How do we respond to "all sin is the same"?

I keep hearing from some people that God views all sin as morally the same but they can never find any scripture to back that up. I know scripture says that to ponder a sin in your heart is the same as committing THAT particular sin but I have never seen anything that supports the theory that they are all the same as each other.What are your thoughts on this?

Well, you are not hearing this from the Catholic Church. St. John in his second letter, (1 Jn. 5:16-17) “There is sin which is mortal; I do not say that one is to pray for that. All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin which is not mortal.” These are not my thoughts. They are Sacred Scripture.
