How do we understand "on the third day?"

Christ told the robber hanging on the cross next to him “Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise” but we also say in the Creed “Christ descended into hell, on the third day he rose from the dead”. Can you explain the apparent discrepancy? Can it be that there is no “time” in God’s world so to speak?
