I have a friend who I know prays. I gave him a blessed rosary five years ago. It means so much to him he said he sleeps with it. But he doesn’t think baptism is a big deal and I think he has reservations about the Catholic Church. I’m not sure if it is because of the Francis effect or something else. He is mum about it.

So how do I convince him to go through the RCIA program and get baptized?

Thanks for your help,

ES

You don’t; that’s a job for the Holy Spirit. It sounds like he is open to the Church, but needs more time to think it through. Pray, pray, pray for him.

Invite him to Mass.
I agree! I was moved when I went to Mass. I was seeking Jesus and asked God to open my heart. When I listened to Mass, and saw they were praying to Him too, and that He was communicating all through the Mass to us, I was compelled to return again and again.

The fears and reservations just faded away!

I still get them, and temptations which get the better of me. But I know Mass is a holy participation in prayer and Communion with Him.

Just share your faith and love for Jesus, Scripture, Apostolic Teaching, forgiveness of sins, His Eucharist, etc. The Holy Spirit will either convert him, or he will remain closed. But don’t worry which is happening. Assume the best, and know that if he is alive, he is able to convert.

Baptism is a command from Jesus. Paul was told to “rise and be Baptized and wash away your sins, calling on His name” (Father, Son, Holy Spirit)

You dont conversion is a stirring in your soul not a friends wishes

Thanks for your help,
PAY MUCH! Conversions ARE God’s task.👍

Perhaps if the opportunity is provided; ask him if he believes in an AFTER-LIFE:

Then show him John 3:5 and Mt. 28:18-20:thumbsup:

Well, I don’t know your friend. But, here is one suggestion. There is someone I know who I went to a Catholic bible study with and I witnessed how through this process of him learning the Bible and the faith that he discovered the need for baptism, causing him to enter the RCIA and then be baptized into the faith. So, perhaps you could invite him to a Catholic Bible study. I recommend the Great Adventure Series.

I suppose inviting him to anything like going to Mass could be a first step. For the Church looks different from the inside than on the outside. G.K. Chesterton says from the outside it looks dark, but when actually walking inside it is like walking into the noon day sun. It is bigger on the inside.

Chesterton talks about different stages of becoming Catholic. We have to be prepared by the Lord. The first two stages are patronizing the church and discovering the church. The convert takes his first step says Chesterton when he decides unwittingly that he is going to be fair to the Catholic Church. He doesn’t think it is true but he doesn’t think the accusations against it are true either. This first steps leads to the joy of learning what the Catholic Church really does teach. This pleasantness is then interrupted when at some point he realizes that he can no longer remain detached from the Catholic Church. Chesterton says it is impossible to remain impartial from the Church. The moment he stops resisting it he feels a tug towards it.

Ask Him if he believes in God and life after death:confused:

Let ME know what he says and we can go from there

God Bless you
