I’d like to begin a discussion here on family movie viewing. There seem to be quite a variety of opinions among good Catholic/Christian families. We are very picky but sometimes wander if we are being too restrictive.
My husband & I are rather particular about which movies our children (girls between 5-10 years) are allowed to watch. We go by the descent films K (Kids & Family) rating & USCCB A1 (for all audiences) ratings. Therefore, our children end up watching only G rated movies (and not all G movies at that) unless it’s a movie with a message that we feel outways the negative aspects of that movies (i.e. We watched Super Size Me and, believe me, my kids opinion of fast food has changed).
We have Catholic friends who allow their children to watch all kinds of movies; they just have to close their eyes during certain scenes. Even their 3 year old is present at movies including violence, sassy kids, sexy scenes, etc.
So what’s your opinion? How old are your children? What types of movies are they allowed to watch? Why?
Let’s keep it friendly guys!
