How do you do a Novena?

I am a Protestant in the middle of a novena to St. Jude, along with my daughter. She prays it once a day. But I read somewhere on the internet that you are supposed to pray the novena NINE TIMES A DAY for nine days!!! Yikes!!! Which is the right way to do it?

From my own experience, it’s nine consecutive days.

I suppose you could do nine hours too…?
