I want to have Masses said for my husband and I while we are still living (as we read it is more powerful to have Masses said while you are living). But how do I request this? That is, I want to say it is for us and not for our “intentions.”

First, let’s be clear that it is not appropriate to be thinking in terms of how to make the Mass “more powerful.” That kind of thinking is, I’m afraid, a form of superstition (cf. CCC 2111).

That said, the way to request a Mass to be said for any living person, including for yourself, is to ask that it be said for your “intentions.” You cannot have Mass said for your soul until you are dead. While you are living, a Mass can only be offered for the needs that you have.
