I was wondering how do you know if the priesthood was not your calling? I go to Mass on the weekends and daily Mass when i dont work. I pray everyday in my local church and I dont know what my calling is? I went into my diocese for an interview and i they told me to get two years of college, and to return after that for a second interview, does that mean that i was REJECTED? I have a very strong desire to service GOD in the priesthood. The reason i ask is because all the priests that i see on TV stated that they actually heard GOD calling them and advising them to join the priesthood.

Hi,

The diocese told you to go to college for two years and then return for a second interview. What part of that is a rejection? They want you to get some schooling and to wait. That is not a rejection. A rejection would consist of their telling you that God is not calling you to the seminary. They didn’t do that.

Unlike your TV priests, I never heard God actually telling me to become a priest. My first call was to religious life. Eventually however, I found the priesthood to be appealing. A vocation begins with a desire. I suggest that you spend time before the tabernacle. Both the religious vocation to religious life and the vocation to the priesthood are all about the Person of Jesus. You are in our prayers.
