How do YOU pray for others?

Do you say a blanket prayer for your family and those you care about?

Do you take an extended amount of time and lift each person up, mentioning all their needs that you know about? If so, does this take over an hour?

Would you say a one-time blanket prayer, but pray for individuals during your day as they come to your mind?

Or do you do a combination of some or all the above?

Or something totally different?

Would you feel that a blanket prayer is not as “powerful” as extended prayer for each person?

Hi Autumn Smoke,

I try and pray for each person uniquely and individually, as I do when I pray on the Prayer Intentions forum. I’ll pray for that person as I answer their prayer intention request.

Sometimes I’ll pray for everyone all at once, in what you’re calling a blanket prayer, when I’m sitting here by my computer or just taking time for prayer during the day.

I tend to pray throughout the day, generally.

I also “offer up” my own discomfort for the members here at CAF as I have many health issues and use them to offer up the discomfort for others as well, especially when my pain flares-up to cause quite a bit of discomfort.

So I guess that you could say that it all depends–what I end up doing when it comes down to it. 🙂
 
If a person is ill I will pray for them usually through Mass, have Mass said for living and the deceased.

Other times names or images come to me when praying Rosaries or Chaplets.

I do constantly keep a few people in mind when praying. God knows our intentions. I dont feel its necessary to list off issues with a person.

I also prayer the specific Prayer for the Pope.

Prayer and answers too it always work on what God’s will is, not mine. I have prayed intently for the cure of one person, and mentioned the cure of a second in passing if you like. The more quietly and less intentioned , but always present prayer for the second person was given a small miracle by God recently. It taught me God hears and knows.
 
My prayers are honestly so useless and weird, it’s no wonder why they hardly get answered :rolleyes:

Usually it’s really, really quick. “God, please help ______, let her experience peace in her home…oh and also ______, that she finds you. Oh and ____, ah you know all the people I want to pray for, please help everyone with their intentions if it’s not weird or evil. ok amen.” 😊
 
Usually in a formulaic way using specific pre-written prayers for different purposes, or else in the style of intercessions around certain themes similar to the ones used at Mass. I usually try to cover
  • Church leadership
  • The Queen
  • The sick and especially the dying
  • The departed
  • Any personal concerns
 
I usually dedicate decades of the Rosary to individuals or groups.
 
After a catastrophic familial loss this year, I am having extreme difficulty doing so at all.

I tend to pray just as OldGrayMare2 does including ‘offering’ up discomfort, sometimes like Roseeurkacross and crusaderbear on the rosary decades, but I feel the same way as Lea101. (Lea101 your prayers are sweet to the Lord!)

Praying for the Queen (or the President/Priminister) is a very good idea. Excellent!

I also request Masses for individuals and groups from my parish and the Seraphic Mass Association. seraphicmass.org/

I’m going to start reading “The Ways of Mental Prayer” book to see if I can get a new perspective on praying. Fr. Ripperger suggested it on one of his videos.
 
I do pray for people and their intentions on the prayer intentions forum using “written” prayers. But then, I say prayers for other people whenever they pop into my head, especially when I attend daily mass. And for my family as soon as I wake, during the day and before bed.

GEddie, I will pray that you will be able to find prayer easier as time goes by, and ask God to bless your family with peace.
 
My prayers are a mixture, for named individuals and groups in the morning and anyone else that springs to mind in the day. My prayers reflect how God created me, which means that I may not pray the same way as others, or necessarily for the same people, but that does not make their prayers or mine more powerful. All I can do is make the best daily offerings possible and trust in God. My words of prayer may not be very good (sometimes even I would give a zero out of 10) but I trust that He listens to the prayers of my heart and soul. Also, I wonder whether sometimes, we need to pray for others so that we can move forwards spiritually as we make the time to think of others instead of just our own needs and desires.

That is an interesting thought, Avila. I rarely pray for myself. Not because I think I am moving forward spiritually, but because I honestly don’t think of doing it. 😊

Maybe it is worth thinking about 🤷 . I am thinking of Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane when He prayed “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass me by.” If Jesus asked for the Father’s help, then it makes sense for me to do likewise.

I think we will all be praying hard for ourself when we face death!

I keep a little Moleskine notebook and it lists everyone I’m praying for and everything I pray about. I pray when I add someone/something to the book, and then do a general prayer for all in the book at least once a day.

Psalm 56:8 “You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.”

I have read somewhere that when our hearts are so heavy or so broken God understands the prayer in our tears when we can’t even form the words.

We must have cross-posted while I was writing up my response, and I am so sorry for your recent loss.
 
The people I pray for the most often is my family; I pray every day for family. I pray that God would guide them to the Christian faith. When I’m really desperate and crying out to God, I sometimes pray in tongues. The Holy Spirit gave me that gift.
