This burning question came up on another thread, so I thought it would be a good time to question the posting audience as to their habits in this domestic chore.

All I know is it always seems to fall to me to do it…even in public washrooms. Am I doomed?

If I had such time to think about which way it is going on I might be able to answer this. But I am just glad it gets on with all the people in my house.:crying:

Definitely over the front because if the paper comes off the back of the roll, it is very close to the wall. It is amazing the damage that fingernails bumping the wall can do to that painted wall after years, so I keep the paper as far away from the wall as possible because I am the one who paints.

Well, I never thought of the paint since I am usually the one who puts the roll on. I just know that when it is on backwards, i.e. coming out closer to the wall, my knuckles get bloodied up trying to grasp that little piece of paper 😛 . Guess that is another reason to have to paint the wall, blood stains are very hard to cover up!

LOL, yes, I daresay, that’s an important point you make! 😉

OVER THE FRONT!

Me and Miss Manners agree on this point, and anyone who brings it around back or thinks it doesn’t matter is just plain wrong.

Go choice 1!!! http://bestsmileys.com/cheering/1.gif

Miss Manners published an opinion on this? Oops, I mean, a directive? What about Amy Vanderbilt and Emily Post?

Or Ann Landers of blessed memory!!!

I don’t really care as long as we have money to buy some to put it anywhere!!! (crohn’s disease et al…😃 ) Just don’t ask me how much money!

Anyone who argues this point is…anal retentive…

I love that brand. It lasts forever, it does it’s job, and it doesn’t leave a mess behind like some of those “extra soft fluffy” brands 👍

That’s only if we are endowed with such…:o

They don’t call it ‘Scott’ for nothing. The Scotts are known for their incredible thriftiness…

Yes, the Scotts brand last forever and a day. 👍

What about us cloth users??? When we actually use TP, it goes with the first sheet coming from the front. But we mostly use cloth… it’s cheaper, easier to train a child (you just need ONE cloth dear, not half a roll of toilet paper) and to be honest, can clean up alot better…

Whoa! Do not let the Troglodytes hear about this! Surely they will immediately try to either steal the idea or kill anybody who thinks about it! 😛

Reluctantly if not impishly, and done deftly so while in process of settling another battle. She just couldn’t resist dipping her toe into this particular brouhaha.

We had a huge book of Miss Manners’ letters, compiled more or less by subject – got it on sale cheap at Sam’s Club. We used to leave it in the bathroom for people to read and it “sticks” in one’s memory when she touches a subject so apropos. Unfortunately I haven’t seen the book since our house fire so I suppose I’ll want to get that replaced – chalk up another item – and meanwhile I can’t quote her exactly. There’s a 99.5% chance that’s where I read it.

We’re in luck! It looks like there was a new printing. The book is: Miss Manners’ Guide to Excruciatingly Correct Behavior, Freshly Updated

It’s a wonderful compilation of her letters with a few section introductions; you can check out the table of contents online.

Book research update: Turns out, the fairly inclusive index of the book is also online, and on index p 856 it references “toilet paper” on p. 249, and “toilet seats” – obviously an important related topic – on p. 553. I suspect p. 249 will contain the definitive answer!
