Some say you have to feel sad and want to change. Others say you have to know what you did is wrong and want to change and please God. What are the steps to a good repentence? Are there any excerpts from the Bible that can demonstrate it and any tips for repentence? I just need an overall explanation because I’m confused. Thank you for your time!

To repent is to turn from sin…to “change [your mind/heart]”. So, repentance is a decision you make to no longer do such-n-such sin (or live a sinful lifestyle), turn from that, and be holy.
You don’t have to feel anything, but it seems reasonable that you’d have to know you were doing something wrong in order to repent of it.

I found 90 references to “repent” in the NRSV-CE translation (35 in the OT, and 55 in the NT). You can get a good idea of what it means by readings those.
