As prophecy is for the church and with false prophecies coming and going, how does the Church respond to a new prophecy?
 
Christ is the fulfillment of all prophesy.
Nothing new happening, so no response necessary. What people refer to as prophesy is usually private revelation, which we are not bound to believe.
