I just had such a good night’s sleep. No bad dreams, in fact I had a good dream. Didn’t wake up with my heart thumping. It was so lovely. Slept through my 5:30 alarm instead of waking up before it. I don’t even care, lol. It was wonderful.

I realised that I used to sleep like that all the time.

Pretty well when the toddler hasn’t decided to join us for a round of “let me sleep with my foot pressing into your spine.”

I don’t have bad dreams… but I sleep lousy. I’m not a sleepy, groggy waker. I’m a ‘dead asleep to 100% wide awake in 1.2 seconds’ kind of sleeper. So whether I wake on my own with anxiety/worry or I wake when my husband comes to bed, wake because he’s snoring, wake because rain outside woke me, the dog walking around the house woke me or I woke because a little mouse 3 miles away sneezed… I’m up for a good 2 hours no matter what I try before my brain will rest back down to sleep again. Then, if I’m lucky I sleep from 5:00 - 6:30 am before I have to get up for the day. 🙂

I’m a compulsive writer, and I do most of my writing late at night. It’s hard for me to fall asleep and even harder to stay asleep. Brain won’t turn off.

Mine isn’t always horizontally if I happen to fall asleep in the recliner and that causes problems. It will be a deep sleep but with wild dreams, occasionally nightmares that often will wake me up with feelings of flight or fight. Headaches are common also all due to lack of oxygen to the brain. When I properly go to bed using CPAP then I have a more restful and restorative sleep and feel better the next day.

So you think it’s ok to do that? I feel kinda guilty.
I don’t think you should feel guilty. Mary and her Son are probably glad that you have gotten to sleep.

I imagine it is like this: I discovered long ago that when my wife is sleepless at night, my voice literally puts her to sleep. We might be having a conversation in bed, and when I start talking, a minute later I hear soft snoring. Rather than thinking, “Hey, I’m still talking!”, I’m just glad that she got to sleep.

If she can’t sleep and there is nothing she wants to talk about, I’ll just make up a bedtime story, say, about a bunny who is going to his friend’s house to play, and sometimes that’s as much as I need to say and she’s off to dreamland.

@Beryllos Aww! That is so sweet and loving. My husband snored and it was music to my ears because it meant that he was close and not deployed somewhere. After he passed the nighttime silence was deafening and oppressive. I am trying to get back to sleep after once again succumbing to the lure of the Lazy Boy napster. Will use my CPAP and the Laudate Divine Mercy Chaplet podcast to get more peaceful. With any luck I’ll get another 5 hours.

Foetal position 🤔
Not so well at present ,some aches from physical work ,some worries creeping in .Usually pray myself to sleep.
I have others to pray for who have real pain with age ,bad sleeps ,to pray for 🙏

I sleep well, and I’m blessed to have an infant son who sleeps just as well. We all go to sleep at the same time and sleep peacefully through the night.

I sleep ok not great sometimes though. Between getting up at 5 am to get ready do some ballet, start our lesson plans and get breakfast i try to go to bed at 6pm so sometimes i wake in the middle of the night. (10 or so).

If i go to bed later it affects my next day as it messes me up because then i take a nap.

Bit too tubby for foetal, but close enough 🙂.

Hope your aches fade away soon, along with your worries.

‘Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.’ (Php 4:8).

In my prayers.

May the Beloved grant you - and all you love - His protection and His peace.

Awful. I cannot remember the last time I had a good nights sleep, probably decades ago.

I have terrible dreams too.

Aw, I’m so sorry. I have bad dreams almost every night too. Not nightmares, just “anxiety dreams”
I sleep on my right side.
Me too. Then I sleep on my left side. Then back to my right… 😉

Coincidentally, I just saw this topic today and was on a talk radio program here yesterday with the topic of insomnia. I’ve had bad sleep for many years but it no longer bothers me. The key to not letting my anxiety disorder make it worse is to go to bed with the following idea in the forefront; It doesn’t matter if I sleep well or not. If I approach bed time, as I used to, fearful of insomnia, that will pretty much guarantee I won’t sleep well. But by removing the fear with an “I don’t care” attitude, it allows me a much greater chance of sleeping better. Adding tension with alarm and worry over how I’ll feel in the morning is the absolute worst thing to do.

A doctor once told me that when we can learn to lie in bed with a relaxed state of mind, and this does take practice, we will gain 90% of the benefits of sleep even if we are awake all night. I have found this to be true and have spent many nights with no sleep at all. When I was working I often had to be up by 3am on the earliest days. It was very common for me to remain sleepless and have a look at the clock every half hour till after midnight, knowing I had to up soon. But by taking a dismissive attitude, or putting it another way, seriously lowering my expectations, the work day was never a problem. I knew people who would phone in sick if they’d had a poor night and would say to them, what, are you nuts? I’m supposed to be the one who’s nuts and takes the medication. But I was also the guy who always made it into work alert and cheerful.
