The bible is interpreted in so many different ways for so many different faiths. How do you feel the bible should be interpreted? I personally feel that the bible cannot be fully understood, and was never met to have a religion based soley on it. What do you feel?

I agree and there are indeed parts that will remain a mystery to us until heaven. Those who claim to have all the answers to all of it also seem to also be the ones who come up with the most out of context weird stuff I’ve ever seen.

The Catholic Church teaches that all scripture must be interpreted in the context of all other scripture and that works best for me. I also love the fact that we have the Magisterium and tradition to help us get all we can out of it.
Pax vobiscum,

I need an “other” (explain) response. I think, contrary to what our detractors think, that Catholic lay people CAN interperet Scripture. It’s just that their interpretation only carries any weight if it is line with Church teaching.

And just in case you think our detractors are free to interperet Scripture, watch what happens when they get to passages like Matt 16 in which a normal, common-sense reading that Christ did indeed found his Church on Peter is strictly forbidden. They can’t even entertain it as a possibility.

100% Agree.

:amen:

Sure a lay person should read the bible and think about what it means. To me it seems silly to deny the obvious: most lay people can read the story of Lazarus and find significance and meaning in that miracle. It reinforces our belief that Jesus is the Son of God.

We must defer to the body of tradition and teachings, etc.
