i’m having a real hard time recently in trusting, like 2 years. im 20 years old and a sophomore in college and just feel like my life doesn’t make any real sense. i pray 45 minutes a day to answer the same question but it just feels like i’m in a circle drive. any advice? thanks!

I know God loves me and knows whats best for me but my life is just so vanilla and grinding. I just want something random and fantastic to happen to at least restore some hope i have in my life and that He is listening.

If you feel frozen…you need to move…spiritually.

You need to go deeper…and it sounds that inwardly you really want to. Maybe that is what God is leading you to do.

Look at your spiritual life: how you pray, do you go to confession often?, what type of acts of charity do you do (soup kitchens etc etc) , do you do any spiritual reading, do you go to eucharistic adoration ???

I’m almost 23 and I’m still trying to find my vocation in life.

Prayer is important but you don’t need to follow the same exact routine everyday. Even the Pope Benedict XVI has said something along the lines that you can run into a dead ends of sorts regarding spiritual life. As for the fantastic part, I don’t know what to say. I’ve been to a Healing Mass and seen people being healed but I personally find it how to react to it even though I don’t doubt the miracle. I have sort of stopped seeking for something grand to happen to me. After all, God speaks in whispers.

For me, I try reading certain books, movies or listening to a cd by the Benedictine monks or reading a priest’s advice on meditation. I also do a Sacred Heart Devotion. Ultimately, it boils down to seeing Christ in other people and seeing how they manage to find joy in their life and trying to emulate them.

John Paul I is one such person for me.

Apart from that, keep on persisting.

As I read your last paragraph I could only think…“Be careful what you wish for…You just might get it”.
“Random and fantastic” covers a lot of ground and could very easily take a form not at all desirable.

Trusting in God’s plan is tricky. It requires a recognition that life is, in many ways, a recognition of God’s hand in the many small things of daily life. The random and fantastic is often the found in the tiniest of opportunities to live out your faith by showing Love to others. Fostering a recognition of, and appreciation for, the small things will go far in helping to live a full life of service to God and to your fellow man.

You are worried that your life is so “vanilla”, well it might be up to you to add some flavor. As Michael has said, this is an invitation to go deeper in your spiritual life. It is also an invitation to DO more…Volunteer somewhere if you can.
Continue your prayer life…but perhaps add some new spiritual reading…trusting in God to guide you to good titles.

I know the above probably sounds kind of disjointed…but I hope some of it is helpful

Peace
James
