I’m Eastern Catholic (Syro-Malabar) based in the US. My Syro parish is close to home. But I’ve attended an FSSP parish nearby to me as well for the TLM Mass.

I really liked my confession session with the FSSP priest. I thought he gave me a good spiritual direction.

Would it be OK if I had a FSSP priest as my spiritual director? Or as an Eastern Catholic, am I supposed to chose my parish priest?

I was thinking of going to confession every week. As in every Saturday. But say I were to make a confession a few days later. like 3 days or so… would that make sense to do?

Of course it’d be fine! He’s supposed to help you with your spiritual life and walk with Christ. It doesn’t matter which rite he’s from, so long as he’s qualified and willing.

A spiritual director and confessor are not always the same person. The spiritual director helps you discern the Spirit’s call and movement in your life, the guidance God is trying to give you. The confessor helps you form your conscience and morality. It’s great if they are the same, but there’s no requirement. Therefore, choose for yourself whomever is willing and best fits each role.

I’ve known many folks with excellent lay spiritual directors, male or female.
