Interesting question: Does entering Purgatory guarantee salvation?
Ket to this discussion and RIGHT undwerstanding is a CORRECT [and biblical] understanding of sin; its natureS and it’s effects and consequecnes:
**1John.1 Verses 8 to 10 **“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”
1John.5 Verses 16 to 17 "If any one sees his brother committing what is not a mortal sin, he will ask, and God will give him life for those whose sin is not mortal. There is sin which is mortal; I do not say that one is to pray for that. All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin which is not mortal.
John.20 Verses 20 to 23" When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained”
- While all sin is abhorant to God; “Mortal sins” are so serious that they completly SEVER ones personal relationship with GOD UNTIL CONFESSED AND FORGIVEN
Gods way!
- ALL sin has a "public’ nature and effect that TOO requires FULL repayment:
EACH of these passaqes refer to PURGATORY. yes I know the term is NOT in the bible; neither is the term “bible.”
**Rev. 21: 27 **“But nothing unclean shall enter it, nor any one who practices abomination or falsehood, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.”
**Mt. 5: 26 **truly, I say to you, you will never get out[Of Purgatory] till you have paid the last penny.
Matt.5: 48 “You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” This is the precise reason Purgatory is necessary from God’s viewpoint.
**Heb. 2: 10 **For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through suffering."
This public nature of sin is termed “temporal punishment”… payback for the cost of damage our sins have cused others.
Consider for example: Murder, abortion, lying, sloath, envy, slander, missing Sunday Worship, theft… these are example of sins that clearly effect other people than the sinner alone. These incur a moral debt to be repaid. EVEN after the sins have been confessed and forgiven as God Commands.
Because God is Perfect we too MUST in an absolute sense need to be “perfected” in order to enther into His Presence. THAT is the purpose of Purgatory: kind of a 'Soul Wash" God requires.
There are other meansd God and the Chruch have for this payback while we are still on earth. Bit that is a seperate topic. Amen!
God Bless,
