How does one live as a Catholic without sinning in a nation with restricted religious freedom?

Hey everyone. I was just wondering. How would a Catholic, in China for example, live a Catholic life without sinning if the government requires them to be on birth control or to get an abortion if they have a baby? Would God hold a person accountable for getting an abortion or using birth control if forced to do so in a nation like China?

As difficult as it may be, temporal consequences do not justify committing sin.

In the case of birth control in China, however, I would think the risk of a forced abortion would easily consitute a sufficiently serious reason to use NFP extremely conservatively, or to even perhaps take vows of chastity within marriage.

The answer is simple yet extremely difficult: We MUST be followers of Christ first, and followers of the state second. In some countries, this means risking imprisonment or even death.

The degree to which God holds one accountable for one’s sins is between God and that soul. We must concern ourselves with the state of our own soul.
